Buhl Planetarium history on Web

To commemorate Sunday's 60th anniversary of the establishment of The Buhl Planetarium and Institute of Popular Science in Pittsburgh, the Andrew Carnegie Free Library has posted a new Internet home page.
The Web site, titled "History of the Buhl Planetarium and Institute of Popular Science, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania," can be accessed at ( http://www.clpgh.org/ein/andrcarn/Buhlcover.htm).

The Buhl Planetarium and Institute of Popular Science was dedicated Oct. 24, 1939, as the nation's fifth major planetarium and one of the few museums of astronomy and the physical sciences at the time.
The Web site includes documents and photographs describing the many programs and exhibits of The Buhl Planetarium and Institute of Popular Science through its closure Aug. 31, 1991. The new Henry Buhl Jr. Planetarium and Observatory opened Oct. 5, 1991 in the Carnegie Science Center.
